'If It's Football, It's Vital'

'Jesus' has huge Saints following

In our Vital Southampton Poll we asked who you think has been George Burley's best signing.

The results were pretty evenly spread, which shows the confidence fans have in most of the players Burley has acquired.

Alexander Ostlund stood out as the fans favourite, polling 45% of the vote. The 27-year-old Swedish International, signed from Feyenoord in January for a bargain 100k, has become an instant cult hero with supporters.

Ostlund has quickly proved he's a no nonsense defender with a committed style which is perfect for the English game. He also has the skill and drive to get forward and support the attack well when required.

Fans have nicknamed him Jesus due to his shaggy hair and unkempt beard, and have come up with the ingenious chant 'Jesus is a left back'!

Against Sheffield Wednesday fans sang 'Jesus give us a wave' to which 'Jesus' enthusiastically punched the air in response.

Here are our full Poll results.

Who has been Burley's best signing ?

Alexander Ostlund 45%
Richard Chaplow 16%
Gregorsz Rasiak 13%
Bartosz Białkowski 20%
Peter Madsen 3%
Jim Brennan 3%

In our latest Poll we want to know how you feel about the much publicised share trading in the club, with the reported interest of Andrew Strode Gibbons consortium and the recent sale of 10% of the club to property tycoon Michael Wilde.

100k for Jesus, didn't know he was that cheap, what a bargain - GB's the only wheeler dealer on the south coast. Puts Harry to shame with his squandering of 12mil on panic buys.

Ostlund showed against Sheff Wed why the fans have taken to him with some great defending as well as some attacking runs, but I have been equally impressed by Jim Brennan's quiet authority and his impressive support in attack. By the way, to the fans who chant 'Jesus is a left back' Ostlund plays on the right!

You asked who was George Burley's best buy, but how about the opposite question, 'Who has been his best sale?' Strong candidates must be Quashie, largely anonymous in his last few games for the Saints and now banned for one third of the remaining games in the Greed League this season, Brett Ormorod, good lad, but we'd had the best of him, and of course, Rory Delap, just for being Rory Delap.

I thought that when i heard the chant jesus is a left back too. The best sale probably Quashie for his overall affect on team moral - he looked nasty when he kicked that bloke in the back the other day, see the anger in his face. Was vicous. Delaps a close second for best sale tho.

you still think burley is the right man for the job lol omg ger real he sells all your best players like quashie and walcott and many others and gets in poor quality players ooooo what a good job done
pompeyboy
pompeyboy you'll learn about selling off Blueknapps useless players pretty soon. Benjani 4.5million and yet to score, lol.
