Anyone else get the feeling that we are not well prepared in the heart of defence? I took a look on the saintsfc.co.uk today and noticed that the squad numbers have been updated. On one hand we have an abundance of goalkeepers, midfield and strikers, but on the other we are seriously lacking in the defence department.
At the moment, we have 4 (yes thats right 4), recognised defenders: Chris Perry, Wayne Thomas, Andrew Davies and Ollie Lancashire. Thats it. The rest are just kids still learning their trade. We are all hoping that Killer Svensson makes a come back, which will make 5, but we do need a few players in as back up.
The position between the sticks looks to be ultra competitve with Davis getting my vote as number one.
Midfield, as per normal, has an abundance of quality. I can see new boy Paul Wotton getting a regular place alongside Surman, and the other two positions to be made up from the rest (provided a 4-4-2 is being administered of course).
Up front. Two from 6. Stern John (despite his recent comments in papers about looking after number one) and Rasiak would be my pairing to start. But again anyone could come in there and do a job.
In all, not a bad looking squad, but we still need one, maybe two, defenders to come in.
