Pay As You Play
Morning Saints fans. News in the Daily Echo today states that Michael Svensson has been offered a new pay as you play contract. Saints' football board chairman Michael Wilde told the paper:
'We have already been in discussions with Michael regarding a new contract and have agreed to negotiate a pay as you play deal in time for the new season. If fit, Michael, in my view, is also the best possible choice for captain - he has been a great servant of the club and is a fantastic role model.'
Am I hearing this thing right? They want him to stay at the club. They want him to possibly be captain. They have seen how hard he has worked through three years of rehab. His reward.... pay as you play Mike.
Bit of a kick in the teeth that one. I have played under that sort of contract before, and it is a load of crap. If they are gonna give the fella a contract, give him a proper one. Reward his hard work. Give him the confidence that he'll be staying. Give him a platform to lead the club.
