What`s the ultimate football derby? Could it be Liverpool v Manchester United, Southampton v Portsmouth, Newcastle v Sunderland, Rangers v Celtic, Arsenal v Spurs, Wrexham v Chester City, West Bromwich Albion v Wolverhampton Wanderers, Preston North End v Blackpool, or Millwall v West Ham?

In the new book Mad for It Andy Mitten talks to managers, players, backroom staff, local journalists and to a host of passionate fans to illuminate the conflicts, tensions, histories and culture behind these fascinating games. From the biggest global clashes and little known derbies in Cairo or Calcutta which attract twice as many fans as any Old Firm clash, to the coldest derby in the world, and the friendliest - Mad for It journeys across the UK and to the far-flung regions of planet football to discover the classic derby matches.

Never gone to a foreign derby, but seen Exeter/Torquay.. Spurs/Arsenal... City/United.... Wednesday/United.... Norwich/Ipswich... City/Rovers and a few others in my time but the one for me is Us v you lot .. it's pure hated going back 100 odd years.. In Liverpool & Manchester people have family members who are blues.. It just would not happen in Pompey.. It's personal.. but I speak as a Pompey fan so I'm completly biased.. but name me another rivarly that has has 7 books published .. dedicated 100% to the subject...

Good comment Chix. Being from Northern Ireland myself the biggest rivalry I see is between Rangers and Celtic. Ive played in a few Pompey v Saints games at youth level, but never seen the full blown version. Which would you say is the most fiercest?
