Who is better Saints or Pompey?

Who is better Saints or Pompey?

It seems much of the banter on the 100% football forum is Pompey related, with Pompey fans coming and showing their dislike for our club frequently!

Pompey fans are somehow currently winning a poll on our forum in which an anonymous fan asked 'Who is better Saints or Pompey?'

The Vital Southampton Forum is active for fans to express their views on events at St Marys.

The fans debate has hotted up recently due to Saints new found optimism and the ever increasing possibility our rivalry with Pompey will be resumed on the pitch in the Championship next season.

Saints have been better than Pompey for many years, but in truth for the last 2 seasons the boot is now on the other foot. For a start they both play in different divisions (at least for now) and 19th in The Prem. is better than 17th in the Champ. It would be better if they were both in the Premier league together. It appears that we will now both meet in the Championship however. Next season we will once again see who is better, but for the moment Pompey holds the title, the challenger must attempt to wrestle the title away. Good luck we will await the outcome with anticipation.

spose it depends how you look at it, i take pompeygrays point that they have a better current status than us cos of the league positions, but honestly believe on current form we would win. Pompey cant even score at present whereas in saints last game v prem opposition we deserved a result away to inform newcastle, unluckily losing 1-0. There isnt much quality gap between bottom of prem and CCC. Anyway i hope we get to see who's best next season. I hope we both go up if pompey do go down this time, cos it'd be better for our regions footy if were both in top flight where we should be.

Well said, I agree totally. Pompey and Saints both need to be up there. Who is the best is highly debatable, given A. Which side of the fence one is on and B. What criteria is used for comparison. History, Head to Head, success in terms of trophies, current form, league ranking.....it goes on. I tend to use the latter as an ongoing yardstick, therefore premier sides are ranked 1-20, Championship 21-44 and so on. Afetr all the best 20 sides are in it, even though somebody has to finish 20th. Naturally it changes when promotion and relegation follows.

I think Portsmouth will finish in comfortable mid table or higher next season. The team Harry is putting together looks good. Southampton are way -off the orem at the moment, with all the off the fields struggles,
