Poortvliet wants St. Mary's to be a fortress

Jan Poortvliet has insisted that Southampton's home form has to change.

On their travels Poortvliet's young side have won ten points; one of the best away records in the league.

With the dramatic 2-3 win at Deepdale, Poortvliet's boys continue to shine away from St. Mary's.

Yet, their home form has let the young side down. Only six points have been accumulated at home, coming from a win against Norwich and three draws against Barnsley, Ipswich and Coventry.

Poortvliet has acknowledged that if home games were excluded, his side would be seventh. The Dutch boss has insisted that things have to change.

'It's disappointing when you play seven home games and only have six points," Poortvliet said.

"It should be at least 15 points, or something like that."

Poortvliet has a chance to change the terrible home form this Saturday against Bristol City. Saints beat the Robins 2-0 at home last season; a repeat of that would be a start to turn St. Mary's into a feared fortress.

Played 7, Won 1, Drawn 3, Lost 3, F 6, A 9 , Hardly a good starting place to start talking about wanting a fortress.. You've leaked (nearly) more goals than any other club this season so far.. maybe concentrate on the defence at home AND away first.. raather than make bold claims .... A fortress can easily be breached with the right ammunition !
