Holmes injury update

Saints' winger Lee Holmes faces a futher spell on the sidelines after suffering a recurrence of his troublesome knee injury.

The 21-year-old originally picked up the injury back in September during the 4-1 away defeat at the hands of QPR.

After 3 months out, Holmes made a successful return to first-team action, only to suffer a setback during the 2-2 draw with Norwich at Carrow Road, where he was subsequently replaced by youngster Kayne McLaggon.

Speaking to the official club website, Saints' first-team physio, Mo Gimpel, said, "Lee clipped the floor and twisted the same knee that suffered medial ligament damage earlier in the season."

It is expected that Holmes will be out for a further 3-4 weeks, and Saints are unlikely to rush him back into the fold until he has made a complete recovery.

Holmes is considered to be a key member of the first-team squad at St Mary's, having made 14 appearances in all competitions, scoring 2 goals in the process.

We miss Lee a lot, his pace and desire is what we need to get us out of the hole we are in.

the sooner holmes is back, the better. a really important player for us and nobody delivers a ball into the box like he does, other than skacel. the only problem is, we never seem to play him left midfield!
