Liptak continues to impress

Hungarian defender Zoltan Liptak continues to impress for Southampton reserves.

The Saints beat Lewes 2-0 at Staplewood last night and Assistant First Team Coach Dean Gorre believes it was Liptak who made the difference for the Saints.

"Zoltan was for me, the best player on the pitch. He was what you expect from a centre back - he was solid, ruling in the air and looked like a real asset for the club."

Simon Gillett's 25 yard wonder strike and Joseph Mills' half volley won the match for the Saints in the second half, but Liptak's involvement was more encouraging.

Last night's victory was Gorre's first game in charge of the reserves and he explained his role within the team.

"Mark Wotte and I do the reserves as much as we can if we can get the timing right with the first team. The first team is most important and then we try to do as much as we can with the reserves.

"We really don't have a reserve team because everybody is in a whole group and that's how we train and from that we choose who plays in the first team."

Is he ready to step up? He has been getting rave reviews recently, and we aren't exactly masters at the back. We have cover with Lancashire but what do you think about Liptak stepping up the first team??

If anything happens to Saeijs or Perry then it's good to have Liptak as an option. I managed to see him in action for the reserves and he is very commanding, but playing against Lewes and then playing in The Championship is quite a step up! We'll have to wait and see, but I wouldn't be afraid to throw him in if need be.

I know it seems ultra negative but i always feel like im looking for the alteria motive from echo reports. All that about Rudi wanting to leave, then not agreeing personal terms twice, if he wanted to go he would of especially with only 6 months on his contract. I cant help but feel the echo/club want us to feel that we have options at the back when we dont really.
