'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Wotte says players believe

Saints' Head Coach Mark Wotte has stated that his players are confident of beating the drop after two consecutive wins at St Mary's.

Yesterday's 1-0 victory over Cardiff City gave the Saints six points out of six, and the Hampshire side will be looking for another three points as they travel to Ipswich on Tuesday night.

Speaking to skysports.com, Wotte said, "The players believe they can stay up and we have had two fantastic results and now we have to keep winning."

Jan-Paul Saeijs and Chris Perry have received widespread praise in recent weeks, and fans believe that Saints' upturn in fortune has plenty to do with the duo forming a strong partnership in the heart of the defence.

Yesterday's clean sheet was Southampton's first since their 1-0 victory away to Barnsley on January 10th.

"Defensively we were excellent and this is our first clean sheet for some time," Wotte added.

Next for the Saints is a tricky away day to Portman Road to face an Ipswich side who sit in 10th place with 50 points.

The Tractor Boys lost to high-flying Preston at the weekend, but ex-Saint Jim Magilton will be looking to get his side's promotion push back on track when the Saints come to town.

If we play like we have in the past two weeks then we have a got a serious chance of staying up. It's going to be interesting what happens at Ipswich, I can honestly see us taking at least a point back to Hampshire. COYR!

Don't you mean past two games abesaint? lol. Yeah we have been playing very well, isn't it strange how long the Saints faithful wait for a home win, and then two pop along? I, too, think that we can get a win up in Ipswich. They have been very inconsistent this season and hopefully we can string a few wins together to lift us out of the relegation zone.

The Ipswich game should be a good match. With Saints on a decent little run, confidence will be high and I have no doubt we can get something from the game. Ipswich lost at the weekend to Preston and they'll be looking to get back to winning ways to stay in touch with the playoffs. Jim Magilton will be desperate to get one over his former club too, so I am very much looking forward to this one!
