Mills stays at Scunthorpe

Southampton have agreed to extend Joseph Mills' loan spell with Scunthorpe United until the end of the season.

Mills, 19, initially joined the Irons on a one-month emergency loan at the end of February.

The Southampton Academy graduate has featured in eight consecutive games for the play-off chasing League One outfit, impressing boss Nigel Adkins in the process.

'Fish' has gained invaluable first-team experience whilst at Glanford Park, and he may now get the chance to play at Wembley Stadium when Scunthorpe play Luton Town in the final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy on April 5th.

The Irons currently sit in 6th place on 64 points with eight games remaining, and the left-back is eligible to play in any potential play-off fixtures, before returning to the south coast on May 24th.

Good move in my opinion. Mills is doing well at Scunthorpe and their fans are impressed by him. This loan spell will only benefit Mills and he will come back to Southampton a better player for it. I just hope that the Irons don't gain promotion whilst we get relegated, as they then might be in a position to sign Mills from us on a permanent basis!

Yeah well said. Mills is doing very well, starting all eight games he has played. He looked promising at St. Mary's, just a little bit inexperienced. Hopefully he'll come back a better player and settle in a left back.
