Angry Wotte slams Saints start

Southampton boss Mark Wotte blames the terrible start his side made as the Saints were mauled at Molineux.

The Saints were 3-0 down with just 18 minutes gone, and the Dutch boss was angered by his side's lack of concentration:

'If you start a game like this then you will never win a game in the Championship, especially against Wolves away,' Wotte said. 'I was really angry to have conceded two goals in the first five minutes.'

'We knew that Wolves would attack us from the start because of the result that they had against Birmingham, but we put them in the driving seat by conceding so early on.' Wotte added.

Wotte is willing to draw a line under yesterday's performance as long as his side learn from their mistakes with just four games remaining:

'We can never start another game like this in the last four games,' he continued. It's unacceptable. At half time I told them to look at the shirt that they were wearing and play for the pride in the second half. We also wanted a clean sheet as goal difference may be important.'

Southampton now have to rely on other results going their way today, as the teams around them scramble for their lives this afternoon.

We can never start a game like that again. It was terrible. The match was over the first 18 minutes and it was depressing watching the rest of the game. We need a solid start against Palace, but I fear that by tonight we will be more points off safety, if Norwich and Forest pick up points. We need a bit of luck today...
