Wotte: We need nine more points

Southampton boss Mark Wotte believes that his side need to win their last three matches to avoid relegation.

The Saints recorded their fourth win at St. Mary's yesterday, in the 1-0 victory over Palace, and gained points on Forest and Barnsley.

Relegation rivals Norwich City spoiled the party when they beat Watford 2-0 at Carrow Road.

The Hampshire side still have to go to Sheffield Wednesday and entertain Burnley at St. Mary's, before the tasty tie at Nottingham Forest on the last day of the season, which could determine who goes down.

Speaking to the Daily Echo, he said: "We knew that Watford would not be very strong against Norwich and we expected Norwich to win.

"But we also expected Sheffield United to win their game because they have something to fight for and they play to go up.

"I didn`t expect Sheffield United to lose points to Nottingham Forest but what can I say we have to do it all ourselves and it`s been like this for months.

"We have to go and pick up another nine points."

I still believe that we can stay up without winning our last three games. Barnsley have the toughest run-in, playing Reading and Wolves. I think that it will go down to Forest away on the last day. Such a huge game!

I think you're totally right abesaint, we've got a tough run in, Forest seem to have the one we'd all like. Looks like it will be a case of relying on everyone elses results but I have to be honest, I reckon it will be us. You can use that vital win against Palace to build on, we were a shambles at home to Swansea! You need 9 points but we need 7, not good at all mate, who knows what might happen! Maybe Norwich will lose all their games!

Yeah it's a tricky one. I'm so glad we got that win, so like you said, we can build on. Hopefully the Saints can go on a run to the end of the season. I just fear for Barnsley, that your run in is too hard, playing two top teams fighting for promotion...

Yeah its not looking good for us, we've got to hope forest mess it up, looks like they've lost earnshaw and their keeper to injury, dont know if it will make the difference. I think if you'd not had so many youngster thrown in to replace injuries and what not you'd have been fine. Watch this space mate, its never boring at the bottom of the championship though!

It'll go right down to the wire, I think. For what Saints have been through this past year, it would be an incredible achievement to beat the drop. Fingers crossed you can.
