Davis expected to stay

Davis expected to stay

Mark Wotte expects Kelvin Davis to remain at the club next season.

Davis, 32, is out of contract in the summer, but Mark Wotte is confident that he will stay:

'I had a good meeting with Kelvin Davis and it was a very positive conversation,' Wotte told Southampton's official website.

'He has always said that he is keen to stay at Southampton if we can all agree an appropriate offer.'

The ex-Sunderland keeper won the Southampton player of the season award by a huge margin, and with this he has drawn a lot of attention from other clubs.

Leeds United have declared their interest along with some Championship clubs, and head coach Wotte is aware that it isn't up to him: 'It is in Kelvin's hands now. We have outlined a provisional offer to him, but of course, it is dependent on us getting the go-ahead once the financial situation is more clear.'

I would love love love him to stay. I just can't see it happening. Firstly, our financial predicament won't help, and secondly, I don't think he'll want to be playing League 1 football when he knows he's so much better than that. Will be interesting to see what happens...
