Murty joins Saints on one-year deal

Graeme Murty has joined Southampton on a one-year deal.

The former Reading captain has been training with the Hampshire side during pre-season and has impressed Saints new boss Alan Pardew.

Saints face Millwall in just three days for their first match of the new campaign, and Pardew feels that the 34-year-old could feature in that side on Saturday.

The Scotland international played under Pardew for four years at Reading, and the former skipper is delighted to be joining the Saints.

Speaking to the Daily Echo, Murty said: "I`m delighted to have tied up a move to Southampton and cannot wait to get started.

"It is a challenge that lies ahead of us this season, but the right infrastructure is in place for the club to regain its Championship status and then move forward from there.

"I`ve worked with the manager before and have a great respect for him. I know what he`s about and I know exactly what he`ll expect from me in the forthcoming campaign."

Yeah I agree, we need all of the experience we can get. Potential captain anyone??

Captain has to be Kelvin Davis! When he confirmed he was staying everyone was shocked but so delighted! I'm glad Murty has signed, but we need another defender and another striker before we can think about climbing the league. Hopefully Jaidi will sign...
