Saints sign Lambert

Southampton have signed Birstol Rovers striker Rickie Lambert on a three-year deal.

The former Rovers front man was joint top scorer in League One last season with 29 goals and has left the memorial ground to St. Mary's for a fee of £1 million.

Lambert has already opened this seasons account, notching in Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Leyton Orient.

The 6' 3'' striker is excited about joining the former Premiership side, and told Sky Sport News he is looking forward to working with Saints boss Alan Pardew.

'I am really grateful to everyone at both clubs for making this deal possible.' said Lambert.

'The owner and chairman here have great plans for the club, and I am really looking forward to working with Alan Pardew.'

Great signing! Lambert is proven at this level. Scored 29 goals last season, we seriously need some of that this year. I fear that Saga and Rasiak are on their way out, but at least Lambert is a decent replacement. Good job Saints!

Yeah I've heard a lot fro Rovers fans that he is top class. He is proven at this level and I can't wait for him to start scoring for us. And yes - I remember that free-kick he scored against us in the cup!! I hear he's a bit of a free kick specialist too??
