Trotman joins on loan

Southampton sign Preston North End centre back Neal Trotman on loan until January 3rd.

The 22-year-old comes in to solve the defensive problems at the back for the Saints, which has resulted in their slow start to their new life in the third tier.

The Englishman missed out of last season's campaign with a hernia problem, and PNE boss Alan Irvine wants the youngster to get some first team football under his belt.

Trotman has made one appearance this season for the Lillywhites in their 5-1 Carling Cup victory over Morecombe.

The 6' 2' centre back made an instant impact after coming on as a second half substitute, scoring after just 10 seconds to send the Lancashire side into the next round.

Trotman is excited to be joining the south coast side, and spoke to the Daily Echo: "I didn`t think the move would be this quick.

"I need games and to come to a club like Southampton I couldn`t say no."

Another good signing!! We need all the help we can get at the back. Hopefully he can do a job, I'm not sure who he'd partner at the moment?! Nobody seems up to it at the back for us.

Yeah, U's fan here - he played for us last season and was great in a few games. Too expensive at £1 million value. Good luck with Hammond, is an ace little player.

Trotman was very good on his début but after that he looked poor. Was sloppy when on the ball and kept making rash errors...
