Southampton 1 - 1 Brentford

Southampton continue their poor start to the season with another home draw against Brentford.

It took the Saints 73 minutes to break the deadlock, when new signing Dan Harding volleyed home to give the Saints what was thought to be their first win of the season.

But, just ten minutes before the end the London side equalized when Cleveland Taylor headed home from Ryan Dickson's cross to ensure the Bees went back to the capital with a point.

The Saints had a late surge and nearly got the winner but Bees keeper Lewis Price kept Morgan Schneiderlin's effort out with a fine save.

The home side started the brighter, and were putting the former League Two outfit under pressure.

But Brentford proved to be stubborn opposition as the Saints struggled to create any real openings.

Finally the Saints created their first real chance, and should have been 1-0 up on 37 minutes. New signing Neal Trotman managed to head over the bar from 6 yards out, when it looked harder to miss, after Rickie Lambert did well to cross.

Kelvin Davis then proved his worth at the end of the first half, when he denied Kevin O'Connor to keep his side in it.

The Saints fans again left frustrated, as they watched their side go on to draw again at home.

Tomorrow night they face Premier League side Birmingham City in the second round of the Carling Cup.
