Jose Fonte Says We Showed Spirit

The classy defender said also that at the start of the Brighton game the team was not at it's best. But the the way that the team battled back was crucial and will be of help in the final games of the season.

He thought that the side showed a lot of character to twice get back into the game after dropping behind. He also felt that a further tem minutes would have enabled Saints to win.

Fonte was disappointed with the start but felt that the team had the better of the game from about the 25th minute. Equalising as they did just before half time gave them a big lift.

The second half began with Saints looking more like doing something. Jose also praised the second goal scored by Brighton. He felt that the initial pace of the winger undid them and that the cross was inch perfect enabling Barnes to jump between two Jaidi and himself to head home.

He admitted, 'Sometimes you can't do anything as a defender, you just have to give credit to the winger and the striker. The important thing for me was the way we reacted.'

Jose Fonte says that the team is still focused on the improbable dream. I personally have just one question to ask after this game.

Why did we wait until 75 minutes before making the substitutions when we had to win this game?

I quite like Jose but he is a bit too old for me. I prefer Adam Lallana. He speaks well tho and plays well so he will do.

He has been a breath of life to our defence. we stillat times, look fragile but overall he has performed minor miracles since arriving. I wouldn't expect him to say anything else to be fair while we still have a chance.

Jose will be one of those players that enjoy the ride to the top I think. He has shown moments of pure class and is fast becoming a firm favourite with the fans.
