Wembley Pitch Risk For England Squad

Wembley Pitch Risk For England Squad

The England captain has expressed concern at the state of the Wembley pitch ahead of the friendly against Mexico.

With Ferdinand back, Ledley King knee and Wayne Rooney ankle nursing their own seperate injuries it is a risk that could backfire big-time.

Any of these three or indeed any other player that gets injured due to the pitch will possibly have far reaching effect.

Imagine the concern if a Mexican is injured and the pitch is held responsible. Bang goes our hopes of 2018.

If it is one of our players that gets hurt it will be our own fault for placing our priorities in the wrong order.

The FA will be trying to recoup as much of the rebuild costs as they can but at what cost. Is it right for our national football stadium to be used for non football events where the pitch is placed at risk?

The FA and Wembley have agreed that a way to improve the pitch conditions has to be found.

In my book it is so simple. Keep the pitch for the sport the stadium has been built to showcase.

Ferdinand himself is reported as questioning the sense in using the pitch for non footballing events.

It would to me, be a cardinal sin if we were to have two World Cups ruined because Wembley is not up to the task it was built for.

Time for someone to stand up and tell Wembley we can only use the pitch for football.

Wembley cost over £750m to rebuild and we don't have a fit to play on pitch. I find that pathetic. The players after the FA Cup final expressed their displeasure at the state of the pitch as did several Blackpool and Cardiff players after the CCC play-off final. Get it sorted for petes sake.

So the pitch wasn't watered for this game last night. Maybe they had over watered the pitch before the other games and the soil was too soft. Anyway there were no injuries caused by the pitch and it played quite well most of the time. Big plus for us was also the fact we had such a full house.
