'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Southampton Withdraw From Combination

At first glance it looks like a risky policy but after a closer look it appears to make considerable sense.

While we wait for this news to be confirmed, it could make for more exciting games for the reserves.

The thought of playing against some of the teams we have been is not a compelling reason to go and watch.

Many reserve games have been against non- league standard players at best and sometimes even worse in my humble opinion.

The idea of playing friendlies against better opposition fills me with some considerable enthusiasm.

The report has said we will play against both home and foreign opposition. Also we will play both home and away.

The only thing that I would like to here now is that the reserves will be able to play at SMS. How good would that be for the players.

For a youngster to get into the first team is a huge step, especially for the first time in his career. To have played at the stadium already would maybe lighten the pressure.

The crowds might be low in numbers but a low price range might help somewhat. Could you imagine the numbers that would turn up for some of the bigger names, even though only the reserves?

I would be more than happy to pay a small fee to watch some big name clubs play our reserves and see how we are doing.

Time will tell whether this is pie in the sky but if true it will certainly give all of us Saints fans something to chew on during the summer break.

The Echo has it covered now as well. If true it could be brilliant news as we seem to keep progressing both on the pitch and off.

How true this is I am not sure. It could be a bloody good idea though if true. We were one of the best reserve teams around until we got screwed by the big boys who took their ball back.
