Southampton Home To The Cherries In Carling Cup

The Carling Cup has really given us something to think about. Our friends to the west of us will be visiting us for the first round of the Carling Cup.

The dates have still to be set but the Cherries fans will be clamouring for tickets to see this match.

They have a fan base that feels like we are their local rivals. In much the same way as Saints and Pompey have a history, Saints and the Cherries don't.

Cherries fans will be so up for this, and with two more meetings already to be played this season we will soon become old friends.

In fact if both sides progress well into the final stages of the JPT cup competition we could yet have a fourth meeting.

Some of our fans will scoff at the cherries fans but I believe this is a banana skin waiting to slip us up.

Eddie Howe will have his boys really fired up for this match. Newly promoted and facing what could be the biggest test of the season for them.

As for us I don't think we will have to worry about Pards letting this game go quietly. He will be setting the record straight as we aim to be top dogs on the south coast.

Talking of which our friends from the East have not fared as well with their draws.

Pompey have to go to Stevenage and Brighton go to Northampton. Stevenage will be after a scalp and Northampton gave us a fright last season at theirs.

So how do we expect the games to go?

Saints to win 3-0

Stenage to lose to Pompey 0-2

Northampton to draw with Brighton 1-1

All predictions after 90 minutes.

Bournemouth are probably thinking of ways to help fight the defeatists among them right now.

I hope the cherries know what is coming when they come to SMS. I am looking at a good win against a team of determined players but our class woill tell.
