Southampton Introduces New Scholars

The reputation that our Academy has gained is expected to go from strength to strength.

The New Football Development Centre at Staplewood is up and running and welcomes five more youngsters to it for the coming season.

The five youngsters have signed up hoping to emulate former Academy players. They all hope to become Southampton players of the future.

Whilst entry into the Academy as a full-time Scholar is a huge achievement in itself, they now have the chance to break into the professional game.

Steven Mowthorpe - Goalkeeper - has been with us since the Under-14's level. He is a strong shotstopper who also distributes the ball well. Even though only 16 has already played at Under-18 level.

Conor O'Sullivan - Left Back - Here we have a pacy full back who comes from Bristol. He has been with the Academy since impressing us in a six week trial back in 2007.

Corby Moore - Centre Midfield - This youngster has a growing reputation for his ball skills and mental awareness. Corby has been with us since he was eight and he has shown such dedication that he has had recognition at the England Under 17 level.

Daniel Bowman - Right Back - Here we have another long term student. Athletic and technical prowess gives this young defender an assured look. One thing that will make him popular is the little fact that he played in our Under-18 victory over Pompey Under-18's last season.

Joe Curtis - Centre Midfield - Joe is a creative midfielder who was formerly captain of Leicester City's Under-16's. Our club's reputation for helping youngsters has helped bring him here.

His father was a professional footballer with Charlton Athletic and Northampton Town hos hometown club.

Nice to see our future is being taken good care of by the club. Our academy has done well over the years and with good luck we will unearth some more diamonds.
