Defender set for Southampton?

Tottenham Hotspur centre-half Calum Davenport could soon become a Southampton player.

Davenport spent time at St Mary's during the 2004/05 season when then manager Harry Redknapp signed him on loan.

And although Spurs are asking in the region of 1.5 million for the former Coventry City captain Saints manager George Burley is interested in the England Under-21 international.

Davenport signed for Spurs from Coventry in August 2004 but he has failed to cement a place in Martin Jol's matchday squad.

However Saints are facing competiton for Davenport's signature from Premiership new boys Watford and bitter South Coast rivals Portsmouth.
