Aaron Martin One For The Future

The front page of the Echo today heralds the imminent arrival of youngster Aaron Martin as a Saints mainstay in our defence.

The youngster that we got from local Blue Square South side Eastleigh last season has shown a tremendous willingness to learn.

In fact he has always shown a talent for the game as he showed when playing for the England Under-18's alongside Chris Smalling. A player that has recently been snapped up by manchester United in this transfer window.

Everybody, it seems, that has worked with Aaron says that the boy has undoubted talent and a willingness to learn.

Ian Baird, his former boss at Eastleigh has no doubts about the youngster's prospects. With a couple of solid displays under his belt at Gillingham last back-end and at home to Southend, he has shown the mental toughness needed to succeed.

Current teammates Jose Fonte and Radhi Jaidi have spoken highly of him and Alan Pardew the manager is also a fan.

Aaron is a keep fit fanatic and has tremendous upper body strength which will help him no end in his rise to the top, if as expected he makes the grade.

Apart from his strength he also has speed and that is always a big plus. With match experience allied to his natural skills he could easily be a star for the Saints for many years to come.

On Monday Aaron will be hoping to play in our final warm up game which is against his old club Eastleigh. He has kept in touch with his friends at the club and frequently goes to games to cheer them on when not playing for the Saints.

Having seen him play I can fully understand what all of the fuss is about. I also predict a big future for the lad and half expect him to become a regular for the team before this season is out.

All the signs for this youngster are reading well. Pace and strength with the habit of being able to learn is all that a player needs. That is except for match experience which he should get this season.

We don't only have him coming through though do we? Racine, is another that we hold high hopes for. In fact we have a few that look like they might be able to make the jump up to the first team in time.

If he makes the jump he will save us a small fortune as we hopefully progress up the table and the leagues.

He looks real fit so please let him make it as then we will have more than the ball to watch.
