Nigel Adkins Talks To The OS

Nigel Adkins Talks To The OS

In an exclusive interview with Saintsfc.co.uk Nigel outlined his plans in his new role.

He said, 'I am very optomistic about where we can take this football club with the hard effort of the team. That's what we have got to be - a team together, that's when everyone achieves more.'

'If we can have that unity then I'm sure we can have all the players working very, very hard for each other and we can play football in the manner that we want to play in, and excite the supporters.'

He continued by saying that he knew about the buzz from our ground when it is packed. He also felt that the fans would enjoy the team going out to play football the right way.

He added that the game is a simple one. When we have the ball everybody is an attacker and when we haven't then we are all defenders.

He also warned the players that they would be working so, so hard as that is the first demand he will make, but we do it as a team.

We have a game of football to win but added to that is the need to have a product that excites the supporters. A team that makes supporters extra proud to be supporting them.

Nigel has already felt a taste of the atmosphere here and says that the match against Sc**thorpe three years ago was a foretaste of the style he hopes to bring.

All of this seasons games will be watched to try to find the strengths and weaknesses of the team. He will also be watching to see how all of the players respond to him.

We have to see how we can get the best out of each player. He said he has the job of improving the players individually but that he has to get the team scoring goals and winning games.

Our new leader has admitted that he knows what is expected of him in the coming weeks and months.

He also said that he is delighted to be here and looking forward to the new challenge in his life.

The main objective for this season is to get promotion he said. Adding tht a club like Southampton will be a game in which all other teams raise their game.

Nigel comes across as an articulate and intelligent man who knows what he wants and will be aiming to do.

I for one think he will manage to achieve his goals with us and could easily still be here in years to come.

Slightly concerned that he seems a little too excited to come to a club with a lot of potential. Lets hope he can turn that excitement into a winning energy for the team.
