Southampton Have Got A Gem

Southampton Have Got A Gem

The supporters club chairman had originally informed the Echo that Nigel would be staying at Scunthorpe and would not be joining the Saints because of his love for his club.

After learning that Nigel had in fact joined Saints he spoke of Nigel in glowing terms and without any hint of bitterness.

According to Graham Godson the supporters club chairman, Nigel has made the move at the right time. He felt that perhaps Nigel thought that he could not take Sc*nthorpe any further.

He also said that the club's fans would not hold it aginst Nigel for leaving after he had done so much for their club.

Nigel will be a great acquisition if he is allowed to do his job Gordon explained. He added that Nigel will bring a fresh approach and will be like a breath of fresh air.

Nigel is a very cheery person and has an astute brain which he uses to make changes if and when necessary. He can spot a bargain and is never afraid to play a youngster if he feels he is ready we are told.

We are also informed by Gordon that Nigel knows the league and what to expect at places such as Rochdale. He says that Nigel likes his teams to play pass and move and that his teams play with a smile on their face.

Reading between the lines you can see that Nigel Adkins is a man much respected by his former club and the fans that support it. They hold Nigel in the highest esteem.

This alone gives me added belief in the man and I truly believe we have unearthed a true gem capable of the long haul.

We gave him a warm welcome on saturday no matter what some sites think. I can see him doing a job with us and I am happy to see him here. He has already shown that he can try different things as a game wears on.

When fans of a manager give such a warm report on him he has to have something going for him.
