Belmadi To Sign New Deal

Vital Southampton recently broke the news that midfielders Djamel Belmadi and Matt Oakley had until the end of next week to decide their Saints' futures. (read previous article Here

Now it seems that Belmadi has decided that his future lies with Saints and he is expected to sign a new deal imminently.

Boss George Burley told saintsfc.co.uk:-

'Djamel's agent has spoken to the chairman and agreed a new contract. It looks as if he is going to sign a one-year deal which is encouraging.'

Burley was also quick to praise the Algerian player telling the official website:-

'He has good skill on the ball and can pick out a pass so I am looking forward to having him here when we begin pre-season training on Monday.'

Burley was also optimistic that midfield man Oakley would also sign a new deal, although he is thought to favour a contract longer than the one year deal he has been offered.

Burley, speaking to saintsfc.co.uk, said that he hoped Oakley would still be a member of the squad next season.

'I am hoping Matt will join us for training on Monday.'
