Saints Unsure About Oakley's Future

Saints Unsure About Oakley's Future

Vital Southampton recently brought you the news that midfielder Djamel Belmadi had agreed to sign a one year deal with Saints, you can see the article by clicking here

It would now seem as though the other midfield player who Saints were waiting on is unlikely to sign a new deal. Matthew Oakley did not report back to St Marys for pre season training this week which could signal the end of his lengthy stay on the south coast.

Oakley is reportedly unhappy at the length of the deal, he has been offered only a one year extension, and will now wait until after the EGM in the hope of securing a longer contract.

Burley is still hoping that the midfield man will sign a new deal but admits it is as uncertain as ever. He told www.saintsfc.co.uk:-

'I hope that he will sign but at the moment it is unclear and we need to know whether he is going to sign.'

The midfield situation at Southampton is becoming more and more desperate with only four first team midfielders contracted to the club, Belmadi will become the fifth if he, as expected, signs a new deal.

Another decent player who just wants some job security. A one year deal isn't enough for many who think that the grass may begreener elsewhere.
