Saints Star Defender Fonte Says He Has Improved

Since arriving at the club he has quickly become the rock upon which the defence has been built.

It was clearly noticeable how badly we missed his presence, whilst serving his one match ban, during the Brentford game. Something that Jose did not enjoy watching as the team struggled.

Saints clearly missed his leadership qualities and these same qualities are exactly what is needed to drive the team forward and hopefully he won't miss any more games this season.

"It was frustrating watching them and not
being able to do anything about it," says
Fonte. "It was a game where nothing
seemed to go our way. Their goalkeeper
made a brilliant save to stop us taking an
early lead and that first goal was so
important. If we`d got it, it might well have been a different game.

For me Jose Fonte would be the ideal skipper for us and maybe soon he will become so, which can only help the team.

If you want to read the interview in full you can see it in the Exeter matchday programme either by buying the programme at the game or by getting it online.

We did miss Jose against Brentford but he is always likely to earn plenty of yellow cards with the way that he likes to hold onto his opponents. This though could be partly because he is always worrying about his partner in the centre of defence. I don't understand why Aaron Martin hasn't been able to get a game lately as he had been building a good partnership with Jose before he had his knock.
