'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Brighton, Southampton & Bournemouth 1st, 2nd, 3rd

Brighton had a scare but came from behind to win at Exeter and are still six points clear at the top.

Southampton too had a scare after taking a two goal lead and then letting Dagenham back into the match and nearly conceding an equaliser before scoring again at the death to make the points safe.

Bournemouth gave an imperious performance full of graft, power and skill to see of Brentford, after the Bees pulled the game all square to win 3-1.

Funnily enough all three teams had to fight hard to earn the spoils but at this time of season that is usually what is needed with pitches starting to deteriorate.

Nice way for the clubs to start the new year and all three have had a downturn in form from which they have recovered.

Could they still be there at the end of the season?

Several clubs would like to think not. Huddersfield looked very good earlier winning at home to Wednesday though the Owls were maybe a tad unlucky in the end.

Charlton also though losing badly today can point to the fact that the last time they lost like that at home theyu went on a long winning run which pushed them up to second.

Other clus are not that far away and will be hoping for us at the top to begin slipping up as well.

Some good results for us today and not every week will be as kind but it is a highly promising position to see the three clubs in.

The south coast rules what a great sight that is. Can these three stay up there though as the grounds become more unplayable with frost ridden and wet churned up grounds?

All clubs will be aware that we have now found our shooting boots and will prove to be more defensive minded than before. IMO that could mean more games where we struggle to break down teams
