Arsenal Homing In On Southampton's Alex

This will be very disturbing news to the vast majority of Saints fans as we have prayed that the youngster chooses to stay put.

The Arsenal boss is not normally as open about potential signings until he is more than confident of a deal.

This means that he is extremely confident of getting his man. Indeed his comments about Chamberlain show he is very optimistic the 17-year-old will be a Gunner before the end of the January transfer window.

It is also possible that Chamberlain has decided to rebuff approaches from other top Premier League clubs so that he can follow in the footsteps of Theo Walcott by making the switch from St Mary`s to the Emirates.

When asked if he knew anything about that, Wenger is reported to have said, "I think, if that is right, that is a very good decision."

Alex is reported to have said that he would like to stay with Saints for the remainder of the season before leaving.

Whilst this would lesson the blow slightly I would prefer to see him stay as a fully contracted player and not as a loanie.

That way we might even get a better deal with us hopefully being newly ensconced in the Championship.

Keep your bloody hands off. If you want him you have to pay up front first and allow us to keep him for nthe rest of the season.

Having seen how our last two youngsters fared when transfered it would in my opinion be much better for Alex to ignore these calls and stay where he is for now. Get this season out and then see if he still hankers for a move. I rate him as a better prospect than Theo was at the same age because he has added muscle and also works harder with the rest of the team.

When you see how all the latest stories are presented by the online press you'd imagine the ink is dry on the paper...it's not. Arsenal and Saints haven't even engaged in talks when you look into the reports. Who's to say what Saints will say...F*** off? We hold all the cards, the player's contract, his registration, a statement from The Chairman saying we're no longer a selling club. All the rest is conjecture. Until a deal is done he's a Saint.

This I accept and hopefully he will remain with us. Question is more how he feels himself about all of the media interest. For a young man of his age it has to be mind boggling. His dad is reported as saying he would prefer Alex to stay for now as well.

Sky Sorts are again joining in with the clamouring for news and adding to the pressure which young Alex is having pushed his way.

Mox888 I do hope that you are on the mark with this. I do worry though having seen so many up sticks and leave without so much as a backwards glance.

The more the merrier as now Alex Ferguson is getting involved.
