Burley At Saints For The Long Haul

George Burley has today put many fan's minds at rest by declaring that he intends to stay at Southampton for a very long time and wishes to win promotion to the Premiership this season.

Many fans had been worried that with the departure of Rupert Lowe, Burley may also follow but this has proved not to be the case.

Burley told local newspaper the Daily Echo:-

'I had a meeting with them (players) yesterday. We're all looking forward to the new season.'

He also said:-
'The new owners seem very supportive indeed which is great.'

Chief Executive Jim Hone has already stated his desire to give boss Burley the tools that he needs to take the club back into the top flight.

One of the bids Burley looks to be close to completing is the dual signing of Rudi Skacel and Andy Webster after speculation regarding the two intensified. The Daily Herald claimed that a move to Southampton was looking more likely for the pair.
