Southampton Scrape The Win

Nigel Adkins was pleased with the way that his team managed to overcome the dour Exeter side.

After a poor first half Saints gradually started to improve as the second half progressed.

A slight change of formation when Chamberlain was pushed inside helped a lot and showed again that Nigel is able to turn things around when needed.

Dany N'guessan making his first start for Saints did well at times and showed blistering speed at times and was the supplier of the first goal with a superb cross which was met by Ricky Lambert who thundered the ball home with a bullet like header.

Saints suddenly found their touch and raised their game searching for the winner which when it came was from another cross which lambert nooded home at the far post.

Nigel Adkins was not happy with the first half performance but was pleased with the way the team battled to overcome the loss of a bad first goal.

Nigel said to Saints Player, ' We had to grind it out and great credit to the players because we equalised with a fantastic cross from N'Guessan and an unbelievable brilliant header at the far post from Lambert.'

For us fans the most pleasing thing was that we had finally managed to win a game with Adam Lallana missing as he recovers from injury.

Add to that the fact that the manager changed our formation when it wasn't working and the future is looking more rosy.

So not a brilliant game for us but in the end we came good and come away with the three points which was perhaps the most important aspect of the game.

Dodgy first half, though the Barnard miss might have got us going if he hadn't missed, being so early. Playing badly and winning is supposed to show the signs of being a good side so I'll take the win and move on.

As you say ghg it was a good sign. Now we have to go to free scoring Peterborough. We should be up for that one.
