Southampton Starlet Called Up By England U21's

The friendly comes before Stuart Pearce names his squad for the European U21 championships.

Italy are by far the most successful side in the history of the U21 championships and have won the title outright five times.

This time round having lost their last game against Belarus they have failed narrowly to qualify in the play-offs.

It is possible that Alex could still be chosen as a member of the finals squad if he does well against the Italians. That is if he is picked to play of course.

Though they failed to qualify the Italians will be the type of test that the squad needs. The Italians will be more determined than normal as they will be wanting to show that they are as good as most teams who have qualified for the Finals.

Good luck Alex and show them what you have in your locker.

This is another step forward for Alex. I just hope that he is not being rushed too quickly through the ranks. It could be very damaging if he was damaged either physically or mentally with being pushed too far too soon.

trouble is now that clubs have to let there players go if called up. Not much we can do to stop the flow if we are going to keep producing young stars.

Not that I would ever want to stop him having a chance to shine for his country. I am just concerned that he hasn't played enough games to be ready for what should be a very big test against some quality defenders who are still older than him.

My main concern is for the bioys future. Too many players get rushed because they have a special talent. I would rather he was left alone for now.
