'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Southampton U18 v Chelsea U18

The game began with Chelsea taking the lead with a badly mis-timed shot which flukily went past keeper Stephen Mowthorpe.

Saints responded well and began to make the Chelsea back four work ever harder.

Sam Hoskins Saints leading scorer equalised just before the break with a left foot shot on the turn after latching on to Jordace Holder-Spooner's pass inside the area.

The second half began with Saints stepping up a gear, and they turned the match on its head just prior to the hour mark.

HOLDER-SPOONER struck a shot in at the near post from the left hand side after picking up the ball and powerfully breaking into the box.

The Saints youngsters continued to press and 10 minutes from the end the game was made safe.

Substitute Jake SINCLAIR had been knocking on the door in recent weeks, and had been going close with a number of efforts in previous games.

This time he reaped his reward as he met a Calum Chambers cross to finish. This goal sparked a huge celebration as all of his teammates ran over to congratulate him.

This was a good win which kept them at the top of their table. Another good display from our academy team.

The youngsters are doing well and have shown that we have some good ones in our academy. Now they will have to show they can make more progress as they try to make their way in the game.

Agree with that girlT. Hopefully some of them can push on and get into the next team and onwards. Some are bound to fall by the wayside.

I like the fact that these kids are beating kids at clubs like Chelsea. Must be good for morale when they do that and hopefully as you say GHG some will make all the way through to our first team.
