Southampton Ex-Player Dean Richards

Southampton Ex-Player Dean Richards

Dean began his career with hometown club Bradford City before moving on to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

From there he came to us at Southampton in 1999. He played 78 appearances for us and was an extremely popular player with team and fans alike.

At the end of his first season with us Dean was voted as the Fans Player Of The Year for his powerful and effective defending.

Leaving us for Tottenham in 2001, Dean made an immediate impact as he scored on his debut against the reds of Manchester.

All in Dean played 81 times for Spurs before being forced to retire on medical grounds.

After taking his coaching badges Dean returned to Bradford City as a coach.

Dean will be missed by many and our thoughts go out to all friends and family.

Thanks Liverpool lad. Dean was a big strong lad who always gave his all. A firm favourite at all of his clubs and a player and man that was both liked and respected throughout the game.

Never see him play but me dad says he was a big strong player and could have been a legend if he had stayed with us. R.I.P Dean.
