Southampton Still Smarting From Defeat

Since arriving at Southampton Dean has played his old club three times and is itching to get a win at last after two 0-0 draws at home and a 2-1 defeat at Colchester.

Talking to the Saints Player he said,'It makes me more determined to win because you always like to get one over on your old team. I think I've played them three times since I've been at Southampton and we haven't beaten them yet. We've drawn twice and lost once, so it'll be nice for myself and obviously for the club as well!'

The game at Walsall was a big disappointment because the team didn't play badly but simply could not score. Chances went begging partly through some good work from the keeper and partly through bad luck. Shots were blocked or deflected and then there were shots cleared from the line.

Colchester have a great record at home and will be fairly confident of getting a result against us.

Dean said that after the game the team were bitterly disappointed but after the Monday team meeting they felt a little better.

The good point was that we played well and should have won. We didn't score and it is felt that one goal would have led to a few more as the chances were coming on a regular basis.

Dean is looking forward to the game even though he will expect to get some stick. He says how much he enjoyed his time there and that he is expecting a good atmosphere.

This is another of those games where we will not be expected to win though it is possible. Hopefully we will be able to put a chance or two away which will help.

So they bloody well should be smarting. To have so many shots and attempts at goal without scoring is simply not good enough. They have to do better or we will still be here next season as well.

I suppose we should be grateful that the players are hurt. Let them show how much by doing a number on Colchester.
