Saints Looking At Plymouth Youngster

Saints Looking At Plymouth Youngster

The 17-year-old, who can play in defence or midfield, has been the subject of interest from a number of clubs, and is reported as having turned down Fulham recently.

Stephens, who is a first year apprentice, has already been said to have turned down a £125,000 move to top-flight outfit Fulham, after spending four days with the London club last week.

Premier League clubs Newcastle, and their close local rivals Sunderland, are both supposedly keen on the youngster.

Saints are said to have agreed an initial fee of £125,000 for the youngster, who can move outside of the transfer window due to his being an apprentice.

Stephens had been expected to turn out for Plymouth`s reserves, against Torquay, yesterday, but he travelled to Southampton instead, and is to spend the rest of the week with the club.

If the deal goes through it will be another sign of how our Academy is doing and more importantly how it is seen to be doing by youngsters and their families.
