Jonathan has seemingly been a nearly man at the clubs he has played for starting with his first club Sheffield United.
Season 2003-04 he began one game and came on as sub seven times with no goals to his tally.
2004-05 he began a total of 3 games with 24 appearances as a sub and one goal scored.
2005-06 saw only the one start with a further three games as sub and no goals. He was loaned out to Doncaster where he started nine games coming on as a sub for four more and scored four times.
He then went on loan to Rotherham where he played eight times from the start and three as sub, scoring another four.
2006-07 he had moved to Doncaster where he played a total of 48 games ten of which were as a sub. He scored eight goals including one at Wembley in the JPS final which Doncaster won 3-2.
Jonathan moved to Sc*nthorpe for the next season where he stayed till we signed him in January.
Apart from fifteen games with Notts County in season 2008-09 with three more as sub, scoring eight, Jon was mainly used as a substitute over the time he was attached to Sc*nthorpe.
During his time at Sc*nthorpe he started thirty times and was used as a substitute fifty-six times. He scored seven goals in that time.
From January we had only seen him appear as a late substitute on five occasions until yesterday. Many amongst the Southampton fans wondered why we had brought him to the club. We had seen a glimpse of his speed but little else.
Yesterday we saw him come on with the team struggling and heading for a painful defeat. Within three minutes we had seen him finish two chances and turn the game on it's head.
His great big beaming smile was a joy to behold as he celebrated the second of his two quick-fire goals.
His impact yesterday was amazing and now he has a lot to do to follow that performance. All I can say is I am very pleased to see you here Jon.
