 Saints Memorial Cup with Everton and Valencia.

On hearing the news earlier today that we would be hosting the memorial cup as part of our pre-season training in memory of the great Marcus Liebherr, it is understood by some sources that the two opposing teams who where hinted earlier to be a Premiership club and a La Liga club are Everton and Valencia.

Our past meetings between us and Everton at St Mary's Stadium was a 2:2 draw, and at Goodison Park it was a 1-0 loss to the Saints.

However the season we last played was the 2004/2005 season, and so the two teams have changed along with the time.

This will be an interesting and difficult test for us and I feel excited, as a fan, to see these boys in Blue back at our ground.

Not as interesting however as the prospect of Valencia, which I cannot remember a past meeting between these great teams. This will be a different type of test altogether for the saints.

It would have prepared us at least to play the type of team such as Swansea in the championship, and I know that they have recently set sail for the blessed lands of the Premiership, but you know what I mean!

Overall It should be a great day out and I feel that depending on the prices we might be set for a sell out at St Mary's.

Now of course we simply have to wait to see whether this rumour is even close to the truth. If it is I am going to be there whatever the cost.

Whoever we see on the day it should be a good day and one which may give us hope for the season to come.

Both of these teams are big enough to draw the crowds in. More so if we have a reasonable charge for the day at SMS. We will all be able to get the new strip as well so shop should be packed. Now we have to wait to see how close this prediction is.

Thanks for the article saintsfan454. Would definitely be good to see two such teams here at our patch and would be a great way to celebrate the memory of our saviour.

Everton play DC United on the 23rd July as part of a short tour of the US, so unless we would be sending a reserve side which is highly unlikely, it won't be us.

Thanks for the comments on my first article. Naturally, the main thing is the big name teams and the crowds they will bring, and for it to occur each year, i particularly think Valencia is a great choice. In regards to Everton, all of the fans i have spoken too aren't that bothered as to which premiership team we play.

I appreciate that DC Utd are lined up for you on the same date EvertonMike but many clubs play two or three teams on the same days as part of their pre-season training. This is still just a rumour though.
