Despite sitting at the top of the Championship, Adam Lallana believes that Southampton still need to improve.
Lallana was influential in Southampton's 4-1 victory over Birmingham City on Sunday afternoon, but the midfielder feels his side can still perform better.
'There's always room for improvement and I think we realise that. It shows that we want to improve, we're not just happy with winning 4-1 we know that we let them in rather easily in the second half and Kelvin's made some great saves to keep us in the game.' He told the official website.
Despite the scoreline, the 23-year-old admits it was not an easy victory.
'We rode our luck at times. We said at half time that we need to come out all guns blazing again and when we reflected on it afterwards I don't think we did - we let them back in it with a sloppy free-kick and a goal.
'We can't give the sloppy fouls away that we did because teams are going to score from them, but we got the vital goal through Chaplow who I thought was excellent when he came on to make it 4-1. It's another three points though, which is brilliant.'
Sunday's victory was Southampton's 13th consecutive home league win and is their best start to a league campaign in 103 years. And the Saints starlet believes the victory highlights how far the club has come.
'We started the game really well and to be three up inside 35 minutes is brilliant. It's not going to be like that all season, but to capitalise when we can is what we want to do.
'Birmingham proved with the chances that they got, that they're a great team. They came down from playing in the Premier League last season, and it proves to us that we can compete against the top teams.'
