Beattie training with Bournemouth

Former Saints striker James Beattie is training with neighbours AFC Bournemouth.

The 33-year-old, who spent six and a half years at Southampton, is a free agent after being released by Rangers in August.

From the high's of Champions League football last year, Beattie finds himself without a club - but the former Saint has been offered the chance to train with League One outfit AFC Bournemouth.

Beattie has scored 124 goals in 307 league appearances, and Cherries boss Lee Bradbury is eager to assess the striker.

'He's not had any training as such with the football, he's been training in he gym on his own and he's just going to come in to get fit and for us to look at him and for him to look at us.' He told the Daily Echo.

'We will see where it goes, there's nothing too concrete in it and he's really come to get some time under his belt.'
