'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Lambert Hopes To Shine For Southampton

Blackpool released him at an early age but he feels no malice towards his old club, and no need to prove his worth to them.

He does however think that such an early disappointment helped change his philosophy and resolve to always proving himself.

Joining Saints with us bottom of Division One and helping us to the top of the Championship may have come as a surprise to many.

Rickie says that this is not just about him but is more the fact that we have many good players and a good overall strength in our squad.

A good management team and great fans, both home and away also makes the complete package something special.

Talking about himself Rickie said 'from my own point of view it's been great to exceed people's expectations. People maybe didn't expect too much, but I enjoy that. Some people were saying Rickie Lambert won't do so well in the Championship, and that was a spur to me. I love proving people wrong.'

He went on to say to the Saints Online that he now hoped to lead us up to the Premiership and to do so as the leading scorer in the Championship.

Having already been leading scorer in Divisions One and Two that would be an extraordinary feat. Not many players can lay claim to such an achievement.
