'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Pompey v Saints - History

We are also constantly reminded that Pompey have also been champions of English football although this was many moons ago.

We all know how they bought the FA Cup recently though bought may be unfair to the creditors that have lost so much money since Pompey went into administration.

They are not so keen though to dwell on the overall records for meetings between the two clubs.

From Saturday 13th January 1906 Southampton have by far the best record. Both home and away they have managed to win at least half of the games played.

For the record Saints won the first meeting with Pompey in a top grade football match by 5 goals to 1 in front of their home 'Dell' crowd.

The statistics for Pompey at home games shows that in all top games Pompey have won just the four games with four drawn.

Saints have managed a total of eight wins in the 16 games played at Fratton Park which is 50% of the total.

Sunday will see the two sides resume hostilities once more and the general consensus is that it could go either way.

With the statistics showing quite heavily in Saints favour I am going for a Saints win. With the draw as the second favourite result as we have only lost 4 games or 25% of the time at FP.
