'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Are Saints Fans Supposed To Be Going Off To War?

Now I am not the noisiest of fans usually but when at some special match or other I don't need to have some loud mouthed idiot telling me exactly what to do.

Telling those fans who are not going, to send our official coaches off in a big way when they start heading to Fratton Park. I am sorry, but I find that idea to be totally ludicrous and way, way, over the top.

I can understand us cheering our troops off as they head into some seriously dangerous military conflict or other. There is always the chance that some won't return in full health. If they return at all.

But for these people to suggest something similar for fans who are going to watch a game of football is ludicrous. Football is a sport loved by billions all over our planet.

Yes the rivalry between Pompey and Saints can be intense but at the end of the day it is a game of football and no more. Whoever wins will have crowing rights for a while and that is all other than the three points.

Then to cap it off they are asking our away fans to shout the team on when at the game. What the hell are they expecting them to do, talk quietly amongst themselves about the different aspects of the game, or the news of the day?

The fact that these two groups have all but vanished with our club rising so majestically from the gloom of administration seems to leave them with very little to do or say.

I feel that it is well past time they realised that they do not speak for the vast majority of Saints fans.

It is also way past the time for the Daily Echo to stop treating these two groups as mouth pieces for Saints fans. In fact I know nobody who supports the Saints that has a good word to say about them.

Gotta agree with you there SFC. I work in Eastleigh with fans of both sides and the rivalry is less than courteous but a lot of fun. Only three points after all.

The major problem is the two clubs have spent so many years apart that this madness stews and some let it out in different ways!
