Fonte Signs New Deal

Jose Fonte has signed a new deal that will keep him at St. Mary's until 2015.

Alan Pardew signed Fonte from Crystal Palace in 2010 for 1.2 million, and the Portuguese centre back has made 87 league appearances for the Saints.

The 28-year-old has become a fans favourite on the south coast, and was an influential player in the promotion from League One.

Fonte had 18 months left on his previous deal and the club wanted to ensure that he would have a longer stay at St. Mary's.

Excellent news. Looks as though we will have a settled back four now with all four regulars tied down.

Yeah, our defence is the most solid it's been for years - and a large part of that is down to Jose. I'm so glad he's committed to the club.
