Saints not interested in duo

Saints not interested in duo

Solent Sport revealed on Twitter that Southampton are not interested in signing Billy Sharp and Nicky Maynard in January.

It has been rumoured that Nigel Adkins has been monitoring the pair for a while and that the club would place a bid in January.

But Solent Sport had been told from a source at the club that they were not interested in buying Sharp or Maynard.

The Tweet read: '#saintsfc not interested in January purchase of Nicky Maynard or Billy Sharp, a source at SMS tells @solentsport.' This is an indication that the Bristol City and Doncaster striker's won't playing their football at St. Mary's.

However, it is thought that the Championship leaders have their eye on Burnley forward Jay Rodriguez.

The 22-year-old has scored 12 goals in 27 appearances for the Clarets this season, and he has certainly caught the eye of the Southampton manager.

I would love to see Rodriguez at St. Mary's. He's young and athletic, who is technically gifted. He could be quite expensive though, and I'm sure Premier League teams have their eye on him...

I also think he could be a brilliant long term buy. Cost could be a bigger threat to a deal than a lower Premier league team bidding for him though at the end of the day money does talk.
