'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Southampton Boss Pleased As Punch

Nigel was happy after the game with Nottingham Forest as he felt we ran the game from start to finish. Even more pleasing for him was the fact that we didn't lose concentration at all during the game, even after the sending off.

Talking on Saints Player, he said, 'I thought the lads were top drawer. We've come away from home, kept a clean sheet, made sure we grind it out and played some really good football.'

He added, 'We scored three, should have scored more and controlled the game from my point of view.' He also said that though the talking point might be the sending off, he felt that his team were always in control.

Praising the midfield he said that they passed the ball well and we had fluidity of movement. Something we saw with Cork making the first goal down the right for Connolly to shoot and Guly to put the loose ball away.

Guly and Connolly were also praised with Nigel saying what a classy player David Connolly is. Keeping a clean sheet also gave him pleasure and all in all he was a very happy man after the game.

For us fans it was nice just to see us get a much needed win. For it to be so comfortable in the end was a bonus and will be good for the club as a whole.

With new players likely to appear over the next week or two the mood in the camp seems to be as high as ever. Good performance maybe but next Saturday we meet Leicester and need to get our home form back on track as well.

Hopefully our manager will be as bullish after that game as well.

Have we ever had such a cheerful manager in the last couple of decades? I don't think we have but maybe you more knowledgeable will know.
