Saints Defence On Zigic Alert

Birmingham have begun to score with a frequency that bodes ill for any defence that isn't prepared to defend with everything that it can provide.

Our defence has lost it's two star players recently with Aaron Martin stepping into the firing line. First he came in when Jose Fonte was injured. Then he lost Jos Hooiveldt as a partner throwing the defence into turmoil.

Apart from the one game in which the team as a whole played poorly, Aaron has done extremely well. Against Millwall he was superb and my man of the match.

Against Cardiff Jose returned and the way they defended against the lively Bluebirds attack bode well for the future. So well that our manager commented on the performance.

He said, 'Jos won't be available for the weekend, but I must say that I thought JosÚ and Aaron Martin were outstanding the other night against Cardiff.'

'They passed the ball out from the back very well and won their aerial challenges, especially in the first half when they were chucking those long throws into the box, so even when Jos is back he is going to have to fight to get back in the team, and that is what we want.'

For a young man learning his craft that must have been music to his ears. Hopefully another good game will be played on Saturday.
