Butterfield signs new contract

Danny Butterfield has signed a new one-year contract with the club.

The Saints defender was out of contract at the end of the season, but the former Crystal Palace player signed an extension to keep him at St Mary's for another season.

The 32-year-old has made only two league appearances this season, with five in total.

Since being signed by Alan Pardew in the summer of 2010, Butterfield has made 44 appearances for the Hampshire outfit.

Good news as it gives us another season to give Jack Stephens some experience. Wonder how long it will be before he is fully fit.

It's a shame for Butterfield that Richardson has been playing so well for us. I think Danny's a good full-back and glad to see him put pen to paper for another year.
